Vunja!

[ten artifacts]

Imagine other possibilities of being alive! Imagine ruptures and openings in spaces of suffering. Imagine other shapes and genres of being human. Imagine other futures! Vunja means rupture or breakage and also colloquially denotes ‘dance’ in Swahili.

Vunja! Party

On August 22nd, 2021, Geci Karuri-Sebina, Rehana and Faheemah Moosajee, Siphe Ngobese, Báyò Akómoláfé and many, many others convened a half-day online Vunja! Party for friends and family around the world. Here is the invitation to this incomparable event:

Vunja is an invitation, a smoke signal, a yearning, a venture into cracks that we have dreamed and felt and tried to speak out for a while now. And now, in this time, when we are surrounded by so much pain, death, fear, lostness – now more than ever we wish to invite you to this village party to celebrate the otherwise. The collective lostness, and the not-aloneness. Come vibe with us – warm your hands at the fire, and let us pray, dance, learn, connect and discover together.

See you at the fire.

This party is for anyone but not for everyone, so feel free to invite anyone along.
